Achieving that Vintage Look

I've been getting a lot of requests for the pin up look. Much of my work is inspired by the classic sexy styles of the 1940's & 1950's and there are so many variations of vintage. First you need to decide which is yours! Are you more the Marilyn Monroe sexy bombshell or do you prefer the bright, sassy Betty Paige pin-up look?

The most noticeable way to accomplish a vintage look is hair & make-up, paired with a killer outfit & some sky-high heels! Check out The Diva Boutique for some really cute Betty Paige inspired clothing, shoes and accessories. Create multiple outfits by digging through your closet and pulling out that long pencil skirt - pair it with a blouse and some accessories, It's not necessarily what you wear it's how you wear it. Cute blouses are tied up in the front or tucked in to your skirt. Add a bright belt and a scarf and voila! The options are truly endless!! The internet is a great place to gain inspiration too, be sure to take some photos with you to keep you inspired while you are shopping!

There is a huge visual difference between pin-up make-up and the classic glamour make-up and we've got that covered for you at the studio as well as some dreamy vintage hair styles.

I had the absolute pleasure of shooting the nervous and not too sure but really wanted nice pics; Mrs. L. - who is 59. We took great care in making sure her make-up was a fit for her and fortunately she is cool with dark lipstick which stood out in great contrast against her gorgeous silver hair. And, no kidding, there is little or no retouch on these. I prefer people to look like themselves anyway, but this is the benefit of not sitting out in the sun year after year! Her skin was beautiful!! Thank-you Mrs. L for choosing me to capture your beauty! xo

I had the pleasure of shooting Kara Granger, model for Candy & Lacy Lingerie, located in Chilliwack. Nikki, just renovated the store too and it is divine! You must visit. We'll be using some of these photos to adorn her new walls...

This session took place in the area above my downtown studio which is run down, but has amazing natural light... I didn't realize how beautiful it was until I started shooting... like WOW! So, I'll definitely have to look into getting the place cleaned up so I can use it for clients!

Well, it's that time! Our Domestic Diva night. Our first one was such a success, we decided to do it again. This Friday, April 29th, 2011 we turn the downtown studio into some swanky digs. Pink Passion Martini's, pampering, fashion, entertainment and best of all - SHOPPING. It's girls only of course and you'll want to glam it up, I mean where can you go wearing a boa and some black gloves or your 50's dress, or your corset and heels ?? We don't buy these outfits so they can sit in our closets... No! It's glam night for girls I tell ya!

Part of the fun of a boudoir session is the shopping for outfits. It's like Christmas for me when the girls pull out what's in their bag! That's when the creative process really begins. Once your session is booked, I'll send you some information with a list of places to shop both locally and online. I mean, if you're going to do this, you need a new outfit right? And girls love to shop! With a three set session, we do three clothing changes and several sets so I like to match the outfits to the sets. (oh and I just set up 2 more sets at the studio this past weekend!) It's always a good idea to match your outfit with your personality! Fun, flirty, vampy, vintage, soft, romantic. Just let me know what you are and I'll give you some hints!

BACK FROM VEGAS BABY

Well, I am almost recovered from a six day stint in Vegas... Just being in Vegas calls for recovery... it's draining in so many ways.... I spent the first two days ripping up the town with two of my girlfriends and after that it was 12 hour days spent attending workshops and a tradeshow. I met so many amazing woman and the highlight of my trip was a Boudoir Workshop that took place at the Cosmopolitan Hotel (in Vegas). Okay, this was THE most glamorous hotel I've ever stepped foot into and we shot in the swankiest hotel room... it was killer. So the next thing on my to do list is to a boudoir marathon at the Cosmopolitan... that would be sooooo cool!

I had the beautiful Miss K in last week! The last time I saw her was 7 years ago for her maternity session... so WOAH! She looked way different this time! We both had to put two and two together that we knew each other and she came with some girlfriends and lo and behold another long lost sister that I got to reunite with... so it was a VERY fun time!!

There are so many images from this shoot that I love... the vintage lingerie and accessories that she brought in were killer hot too! The reason I am so in love with vintage is because it is so sexy without being trashy. Just think about how gorgeous these woman from the 50's were with their curves and smoldering eyes, without taking it all off. Miss K just emulates this era and I so appreciate that she is giving me the okay to show off these images!

Happy Holidays everyone!

Wow, it has been a whirlwind.. tons of fun boudoir sessions, editing, album design, Christmas cutoff! (I made it without any casualties - Yippee!) Now I'm gearing up for Valentine's Day!! Yes! I'm pretty excited because my treat at the end is a week long trip to Vegas for a photography convention and a meet up with some old friends!! I can't wait!!

I'm so looking forward to the New Year! I can't imagine what 2011 will bring... 2010 ended with a bang with the new studio and a busy season with triple the boudoir sessions over last year and I met so many amazing woman. The emails that I received this past week describing the reactions of their men on Christmas Day has been so cool too... and now that the surprise has been done, I'm getting some green lights to post some images!

I've had to turn down some ladies for boudoir sessions in time for Christmas because I am booked solid, but instead they opted to get a gift certificate to give. I had a sweet phone call the other day from the sister of a beautiful lady that I recently photographed. She wanted me to know that what I do changes lives. Like WOW! What do you say to that!!?? I'm honoured and flattered and actually speechless; words cannot describe how that makes me feel.

There are two things in my life that I have an intense need to do. One is to have a creative outlet and the other is to give back. I thought I needed to be a counsellor or a foster mom to really be able to satisfy that need to help people, so when I get this kind of feedback, it brings me a little closer to feeling whole - and that is truly a gift.

I am so lucky to do what I love to do and to be able to give people a sparkly lift along the way!

And a post isn't a post without a photo so here's a recent... (I'm having this one framed for the studio)

Hey, I just realized that "beautiful" has "be you" in it. Which is funny, since I was just going to go on a rant about self acceptance. It doesn't matter your age, height, weight, most woman feel that they are lacking in some department. Even the girls that society perceives as perfect feel imperfect. Now why is this? Why is it that it is so hard for a woman to feel good about herself? One of the mysteries of life I guess.

I look at every woman as beautiful and I just take photographs of what I see. Life is short and the sooner you practice self acceptance, the happier your life will be. Trust me on this one....

My next beautiful woman is a proud plus size diva. Her beauty shines and she wants to share her photos, particularly for the benefit of other plus size women.

So you see, you do not have to wait for anything to have a session, you just have to be you. I guarantee a road to the path of self acceptance and seeing yourself as I do - A Beautiful Woman!

I love a girl with a vision and Miss T had just that! When we first spoke about her session, she told me that she wanted some photos with hot rollers in her hair, kind of half dressed, in the getting ready stage. She did some serious shopping and nailed her outfits & props to include a cigar and a martini glass with olives in it. As Miss T was in with Pam getting the hot roller treatment, my mind started churning and I went into the next room and started moving furniture to set up the scene....(thanks to our local event company Scene Setters for the amazing lamp & room divider I've got on loan it went perfectly with my vintage couch)

These are the resulting images and I must say, I'm completely smitten with them. They remind me of scenes from an old hollywood movie....

I'm so excited to show everyone these photos of my first Boudoir Session in our new studio!!! It was VERY exciting - not only for me, but everyone that walked in the door, felt the same amazing energy that I did that day and I don't think it will wear off anytime soon..... that place just makes you feel like you want to hang out there forever.... and shooting there is just heavenly.... I'm loving this new Diva Room that's for sure!!

I had the pleasure of spending last Saturday afternoon with four amazing ladies who have been waiting weeks and weeks for their girls day out together. They were super excited and a bit nervous but once we started shooting it was all fun, fun, fun.... I really feel happy to have had the pleasure to get to know these girls...they were all a dream to work with and I know they had a great experience and got a lot out of our time together.... which is why I love my job. You girls are beautiful, inside and out (as you can see). I hope you love your pictures as much as I loved shooting you!

But, my first test session was SO amazing, fun, inspiring. And I had tons of room to move around... it was awesome! We are officially opened and taking bookings. (and we're already booked up for October!).

Hello ladies! I know, I'm kinda m.i.a with the whole blogging thing, but don't despair, I am here!. I've got a project or two on the go. One VERY big one! I'm very excited to let you all know that I am in the process of opening a boutique style studio dedicated to boudoir... so...it's going to be girly and private with swanky music and nice people around you.... I am in the process of working on the sets right now and I'm hoping to do my first session there on October 1st! Yes! That's my goal!! So if you are downtown Chilliwack, keep your eye out. What a fun weekend we had at the Fraser Valley Women's Show! We met lots of lovely ladies, and what a treat it was to see the interest from women of all ages, which leads me to believe that ALL women want to feel sexy no matter if they're in their 20's, 30's, 40's, 50's or 60's! WooHoo
